Helen Gates is an architectural photographer based in Rotterdam, working at the intersection of the built environment and the light that moves through it.

For over a decade, Helen has documented the quiet geometry of modern structures — the way a facade folds against the sky, the rhythm of repeating balconies, the shadow a louvre casts at noon. Her work has appeared in Dwell, Frame, and the Venice Architecture Biennale.

She shoots on medium format, prefers overcast mornings, and believes the best buildings reveal themselves only to those willing to look up.
